Purple Prairie Clover
Dalea
An endearing North American prairie dweller and alfalfa cousin, this hearty floriferous selection was bred by Dale T. Lindgren at the University of Nebraska. Fetching ultranarrow trifoliate leaves fashion a compact dark green foil for the petite, electric red-violet flowers that crowd fanciful thimble-like heads atop stiff upright stems. Appealing to pollinators and floral designers alike, ‘Stephanie’ can spangle borders, rock gardens or more natural settings, while her leaves and deep nitrogen-fixing roots overcome clay and drought plus brew a pleasant-tasting medicinal tea.
Blooms June–August
Size: 15" – 18" high x 15" – 18" wide.
Hardy to zone 4.
