Starrush Whitetop
Rhynchospora
Rhynchospora colorata (G-0612)
Each 10.75
A wildly unusual seldom-offered sedge, this long-lived deciduous native grows throughout the damp pinelands, pastures, savannas and marshes of the southeastern seaboard, then extends west into southeastern Texas. Sensational, 5 to 6 in. wide, star-like white bracts with pendulous green pointed tips encompass small snug central flowers that nourish bees, butterflies and insects, while cresting 15 in. stalks and slender tapered green basal blades. An exceptional slow-spreading addition to bog gardens, pond peripheries, water features and even cut creations, moisture-loving Starrush Whitetop tolerates shallow water, sandy or clay soil, poor drainage and coastal conditions.
Blooms June–August
Size: 18" – 2' 0" high x 2-1/2' wide.
