Simple and beautiful, Clematis includes over 300 named cultivars and even more wild species than the rose. Our selections offer opulent blossoms, attractive, carefree foliage, and ornamental seed heads, in exchange for a minimum of attention. Use them to cover just about every stump and dead tree, as well as on trellises, arbors, pergolas, walls and tall shrubs. They prefer to be planted slightly deep in cool,
well drained soil, with mulch or a ground cover to shade their feet; provide a support and let them climb.
‘Girl under Wisteria Bloom’ is a marvelous compact Japanese cultivar, whose namesake aptly alludes to its sizable, long blooming wisteria blue-violet flowers. Large plump buds blanketed with short white hairs unfurl flattish and satiny smooth 6 to 7 in. blooms defined by tapered, slightly overlapping tepals, prominent saffron yellow stamens and later, ornamental golden fluffy seed heads. Introduced in 1952 and awarded a RHS Garden Merit Award, this strong growing deciduous gem can be enthroned on a small obelisk, a threshold or in a patio pot, where the delightful blossoms will cool down the hottest summer afternoon.
Blooms May–June & mid-August–September.
Size: 6'–9' high & spreading. Zone 4/5.

Dainty blooms and unfurling leaves forge an early spring treasure trove of color and texture.
In the last ten days, we’ve experienced all kinds of weather at Digging Dog, including frosty mornings, torrential downpours, deafening hail, glorious sunny 70 º afternoons and even sleet! Thankfully spring is almost here and signs of its arrival grow more evident every day. Brimming with possibility, youthful growth and pristine delicacy, the early spring garden is a fresh treasure trove of color and texture. The plants featured in this newsletter caught my eye while walking through the nursery and along the surrounding borders. Hopefully, a handful of them will spark your interest as well! All of us here at the nursery wish you a very happy spring and countless happy afternoons digging in a garden! Digging Dog's mid March 2017 Newsletter Link

“Surfing the web for a special plant, I chanced on Digging Dog Nursery. I thought that any nursery that could create an Egyptian Gothic out of Anubis must have some pretty cool things going for it. I was right, and my first order was a pleasure. Well packed, healthy plants and extremely appealing people on the other side of the screen.”
