Fringe Tree

Chionanthus virginicus full sun

With ample cream-colored, lacy blossoms and blue, egg-shaped fruit, the American Fringe tree is one of the most beautiful of all North American trees. Native to the eastern United States, it appears quite elegant near water, where its openly branching limbs and glossy green leaves can be reflected in the afternoon light. Growing into small trees, or occasionally multistemmed large shrubs, Chionanthus are easy to cultivate in moist, loamy soil and are well sized for a lawn or small yard. Grows slowly. Large band.

Blooms late June–mid July

Size: 15' 0" high x 20' 0" wide; hardy to zone 4.

As Summer draws to a close....

September is a transitory month in the garden. As summer’s end approaches, the shadows are growing longer and the days are becoming shorter. This time of year may find some landscapes a tad lackluster. When designing your garden, you may wish to include plants that remain perky thoughout the season or experience their heyday now. The plants featured in this newsletter provide a lot of late season oomph and promise to beckon you down the pathways of your garden.

Our next guided Saturday Stroll is September 16th., followed by October 7th. We hope you’ll come visit us this summer.

Customer Comment:

“Thank you for your continued great service and excellent plants.... all the plants arrived in perfect condition. Healthy, and ready to bloom...the primrose produced a beautiful flower, just two weeks after arrival! We have always been impressed with the careful packaging, size and hardiness of your plant stock. We ordered Alstroemeria many years ago that have flowered every year, and are more beautiful with time. Thanks again!”
