Seiju Chinese Elm

Ulmus parvifolia Seiju

Ulmus

Ulmus parvifolia ‘Seiju’ full sun

This dwarf Chinese Elm presents an array of ornamental attributes: fissured corklike bark, delicate branches uniquely arranged in somewhat flattened sprays, petite dark green foliage—elliptic, toothed and lustrous—and bright new growth. Unsurpassed in a trough, a rock garden or as a bonsai subject, it is a stellar, disease resistant sport of the ultraminiature Ulmus ‘Hokkaido’ with small reddish flowers, slightly larger deciduous leaves and a faster growth rate.

Bred by Carl Young of Lodi, California, ‘Seiju’s no-fuss nature loves sun and ample moisture, while abiding an array of soils.

Blooms August.

Size: 2' 0"–10' 0" high x 2' 0"–10' 0" wide; hardy to zone 4.

Perennials that cool down a hot summer day, refreshing foliage, soothing blooms, last chance to take advantage of our summer sale!

Bring sparkling beauty to your August plantings

Perhaps you’re looking for some soothing floral or foliar accents on a hot summer day! We’ve found that snowy white, clear pink, pale yellow and deep blue blooms coupled with silver, bluish green or emerald-toned leaves become refreshing counterpoints to warmer-hued flowers. They offer a place where your eye can rest, much like cleansing your palette when tasting wine. These shades meld the spicy-colored flowers of many Achillea, Crocosmia, Dahlia, Geum, Helenium, Kniphofia, Rudbeckia and Salvia.

Our next guided Saturday Strolls is August 19th., followed by September 16th & October 7th. We hope you’ll come visit us this summer.

Customer Comment:

“Surfing the web for a special plant, I chanced on Digging Dog Nursery. I thought that any nursery that could create an Egyptian Gothic out of Anubis must have some pretty cool things going for it. I was right, and my first order was a pleasure. Well packed, healthy plants and extremely appealing people on the other side of the screen.”
