Himalayan Butterfly Bush

Buddleja crispa

Buddleja

Butterfly Bush

Around midsummer, when the pendulous racemes of flowers weigh down its boughs, itís hard to decide which is more satisfying: Buddleiaís abundant, often fragrant blossoms, or the myriad butterflies they attract.

One of the softest looking plants in our garden, this exceptional Himalayan native invites a touch every time we stroll by. Displaying white wooly undersides and toothed, wavy-edged margins, the 6 in. long, broadly shaped gray-green leaves are oh so fuzzy! In summer, stout felted branches host densely set lilac panicles of fragrant, orange-throated flowers. With its downy silver visage, Buddleja crispa makes a luminous partner for Phlox ‘David’ in the mixed border.

Blooms July–October.

Size: 4'–5' high x 4'–5' wide; hardy to zone 6.

Dainty blooms and unfurling leaves forge an early spring treasure trove of color and texture.

In the last ten days, we’ve experienced all kinds of weather at Digging Dog, including frosty mornings, torrential downpours, deafening hail, glorious sunny 70 º afternoons and even sleet! Thankfully spring is almost here and signs of its arrival grow more evident every day. Brimming with possibility, youthful growth and pristine delicacy, the early spring garden is a fresh treasure trove of color and texture. The plants featured in this newsletter caught my eye while walking through the nursery and along the surrounding borders. Hopefully, a handful of them will spark your interest as well! All of us here at the nursery wish you a very happy spring and countless happy afternoons digging in a garden!

Customer Comment:

“I ordered a few things and had a pleasant experience. Email communication was prompt. The plants themselves arrived swiftly, were very well packed and were very large and had impressively healthy root systems. I would definitely order from them again.”
