Persicaria amplexicaulis ‘Orange field’
at Digging Dog

Persicaria

Knotweed

Poor Persicaria! Certain weedy, invasive members of the genus have given the rest a bad name, and discouraged gardeners from getting to know these versatile performers. Our garden-worthy selections are happiest in semishade with ample moisture.

Persicaria amplexicaulis ‘Orange field’ full sun  partial shade

A mainstay for bridging the gap between summer and fall, this new Belgian introduction imparts vertical late season color over lusty foliage. Green spear-headed leaves compose a big bushy base that launches an irresistible flood of long blooming slim 4 in. tall, orange-red tails. ‘Orange field’ can be positioned in the mixed border, where its exhilarating shades meld with Salvia confertiflora or bring a lift to white Hydrangeas, Phlox, Helianthus and blue flowering Salvias.

Blooms August–October.

Size: 3' 0" high x 3' 0" wide. Zone 5/6.

Ornamental Grasses: Autumnal Garden Stars, Plant for Outstanding October Oomph!

Celebrated headliners of the late show!

Offering superb versatility, ornamental grasses become poetry in motion on gusty days. They are best situated so their fluid shimmering inflorescences, bathed in amber, sable or smoky rose and purple shades, are backlit and set aglow by the afternoon sunlight. Most look fantastic in fresh or dried arrangements, while others produce welcome seed heads that birds adore. Be sure to browse our online selections of ornamental grasses.
