Anemone nemorosa ‘Vestal’
at Digging Dog
“The floure never openth it selfe, but
when the wynde bloweth,” wrote William Turner,
in A New Herbal (1560). In our garden, however, we
enjoy the buttercup-shaped flowers in any weather, windy or not. Elegant and deceptively delicate, Anemone is also tough and undemanding. Most will multiply readily in rich, sandy loam, and are perfect for naturalizing in a woodland setting.
Anemone nemorosa ‘Vestal’
Adored by all who behold it, this charming European
woodland plant boasts the choicest double Wood
Anemone flowers in cultivation. Six ray petals, pure as
the driven snow, encompass a fluffy white central tuft
of distinctively gathered petaloid stamens. The elegant,
long lasting 1 in. blooms repose upon low ferny mats
of ephemeral spring leaves that show off a purplish
sheen when young and disappear come summer.
Blooms late March – early May.
Size: 4" high x 12" wide; hardy to zone 4.

Perennials that cool down a hot summer day, refreshing foliage, soothing blooms, last chance to take advantage of our summer sale!
Bring sparkling beauty to your August plantings
Perhaps you’re looking for some soothing floral or foliar accents on a hot summer day! We’ve found that snowy white, clear pink, pale yellow and deep blue blooms coupled with silver, bluish green or emerald-toned leaves become refreshing counterpoints to warmer-hued flowers. They offer a place where your eye can rest, much like cleansing your palette when tasting wine. These shades meld the spicy-colored flowers of many Achillea, Crocosmia, Dahlia, Geum, Helenium, Kniphofia, Rudbeckia and Salvia.
Our next guided Saturday Strolls is August 19th., followed by September 16th & October 7th. We hope you’ll come visit us this summer. Digging Dog's Early August 2017 Newsletter Link

“Surfing the web for a special plant, I chanced on Digging Dog Nursery. I thought that any nursery that could create an Egyptian Gothic out of Anubis must have some pretty cool things going for it. I was right, and my first order was a pleasure. Well packed, healthy plants and extremely appealing people on the other side of the screen.”
